WHAT TO BRING:
Comfortable clothing and shoes, calculator, and any information or plans you’ve developed so far for your bookstore (blueprints and photos, financial projections, demographic data, etc.) that you may wish to discuss with the training team.   You should also bring along your copy of Opening a Bookstore: The Essential Planning Guide.  You’ll acquire a lot of materials during the week, so we suggest bringing an extra tote bag as well.

DIRECTIONS:
The Oak Park Public Library is conveniently located at 834 Lake Street at Grove Avenue, within two blocks of the Green Line elevated train, and within two blocks of The Write Inn. From I-290, take the Harlem Avenue exit north to Oak Park.

NOTE:
This training program is being held in conjunction with the Great Lakes Booksellers’ Association annual meeting and trade show at the Renaissance Hotel in Schaumberg, Sept. 28-30; registration is included with your tuition, should you choose to extend your stay and attend.

NEAREST MAJOR AIRPORTS:
O’Hare (ORD) and Midway (MDW), about 25 minutes in either direction

GROUND TRANSPORTATION:
Two Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) elevated rail lines (Blue and Green), the Metra (Union Pacific West Line) train, ten PACE bus lines, and eight CTA bus lines serve Oak Park. The Village also operates a shuttle service between important sites and attractions within the community. Should you prefer to rent a car, you may be entitled to a better rate with Enterprise by using our corporate account number 43A4794.

LODGING & MEALS:
We have reserved a block of rooms, beginning Sunday, September 23rd at The Write Inn.  A variety of room types are available, with rates ranging from $79 - $116.  If you’d like to take advantage of this special group rate, please contact The Write Inn directly at (708) 383-4800 to make reservations (specifically state that you are attending the Paz & Associates Booksellers’ School).

A light continental breakfast will be provided Monday through Friday in our meeting room at the library; lunch every day is included as well.  There will be a get-acquainted reception at The Write Inn on Sunday, September 23rd at 5:30 pm, and we will also have dinner together as a group on Monday. On Thursday at 5:30 pm, the ABA will host a celebratory “graduation party”, also at The Write Inn.

NOTE:  Room reservations must be booked by August 23rd

AREA BOOK STORES:
There are several independent bookstores in the area, both new and used, and some specialty stores as well.  All are located within a short walk from the hotel. There will be an optional field trip on Tuesday afternoon to visit other stores.
