WHAT
TO BRING:
Comfortable clothing and shoes, calculator, and any
information
or plans you’ve
developed so far for your bookstore (blueprints and
photos, financial
projections, demographic data, etc.) that you may
wish to discuss with the training team.
You should
also bring along your copy of Opening a Bookstore: The Essential Planning
Guide. You’ll acquire a lot of materials during the week, so we suggest
bringing an extra tote bag as well.
DIRECTIONS:
The Oak
Park Public Library is conveniently located at 834 Lake Street at Grove
Avenue, within two blocks of the Green Line elevated train, and within two
blocks of The Write Inn. From I-290, take the Harlem Avenue exit north to
Oak Park.
NOTE:
This training program is being held in conjunction with the Great Lakes
Booksellers’ Association annual meeting and trade show at the Renaissance
Hotel in Schaumberg, Sept. 28-30; registration is included with your
tuition, should you choose to extend your stay and attend.

GROUND
TRANSPORTATION:
Two Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) elevated rail lines (Blue and Green),
the Metra (Union Pacific West Line) train, ten PACE bus lines, and eight CTA
bus lines serve Oak Park. The Village also operates a shuttle service
between important sites and attractions within the community. Should you
prefer to rent a car, you may be entitled to a better rate with Enterprise

LODGING & MEALS:
We have reserved a block of rooms, beginning Sunday, September 23rd at The
Write Inn. A variety of room types are available, with rates ranging from
$79 - $116. If you’d like to take advantage of this special group rate,
please contact The Write Inn directly at (708) 383-4800 to make reservations
(specifically state that you are attending the Paz & Associates Booksellers’
School).
A light continental breakfast will be provided Monday through Friday in our
meeting room at the library; lunch every day is included as well. There
will be a get-acquainted reception at The Write Inn on Sunday, September 23rd
at 5:30 pm, and we will also have dinner together as a group on Monday. On
Thursday at 5:30 pm, the ABA will host a celebratory “graduation party”,
also at The Write Inn.
NOTE: Room reservations must be booked by August 23rd
AREA BOOK STORES:
There are several independent bookstores in the area, both new and used, and
some specialty stores as well. All are located within a short walk from the
hotel. There will be an optional field trip on Tuesday afternoon to visit
other stores.
