Learn About What It Takes to Open A Bookstore ... and Be Successful
When you’re ready to dive into the book business and learn all you can, there’s no better opportunity than one of our live workshops where you can interact with trainers and other trainees, meet book industry professionals, ask questions, and soak up all of the information and advice.
Our premiere workshop, Opening a Bookstore: The Business Essentials, is given in the spring and fall each year with a small group of people representing 20 stores or less. It’s the ultimate training retreat with more than a dozen trainers and industry professionals, a setting that spotlights spirited independent retailers, demonstrations of the leading bookstore computer management systems, and more. It’s a time to make decisions and make progress on your plans.
The American Booksellers Association also offers a short course at BookExpo, the industry’s largest annual gathering. You'll get two days introduction with us, another day of education with ABA, and registration to the trade show floor. It is a wonderful opportunity to see the industry in action and learn whether bookselling may be right for you.
